Nonstop Begonia Plugs
By admin | November 14, 2007
We are producing a fair number of Nonstop Begonia liners this year and we are starting them in both 512’s and 288’s. We will bump them up into a 40cm Ellepot to sell as a bigger liner. They will be grown under HID lights during the entire crop cycle and should take off quickly after tp.

We grow Non stops pretty much the same way. Sow in 288 and bump up to a 48 (we grow for ourselves, we don’t sell the plugs). The problem we continually have is algae on the plugs and thus fungus gnats since you have to keep them so wet. How do you control algae?

We inject a little chlorine into the water and it helps. It’s not much about 1ppm and it may be oxidized and gone by the time it gets to the end of our hose but it seems to help.
You’re right however that algae and fungus gnats are a problem. We use IGR’s for the fungus gnats and try to start drying them down a little after about 4 weeks. A little zerotol will control algae as well. Maybe once a week at the proper rate.

Do you use Clorox as the chlorine source? Also, do you use a normal injector in series with your fertilizer injectors or something special?

Yeah, we use regular bleach but it’s injected with an Anderson injector/Ratio Feeder.
