Poinsettia Production: Residue on the Leaves
By admin | October 22, 2007
We have had a bit of residue on our leaves during our production this year and I’ve been thinking about how to eliminate this unsightly problem. I have been given the recommendation of using a spreader sticker or wetting agent in our water. So from now on our water will contain Suffusion wetting agent at a very low rate. Anyone use this stuff on poinsettias before?

We have used Suffusion since its beginning. We overhead irrigate a large percentage of our Poinsettias all the way till shipping. Water management is key and Suffusion has helped us to achieve that. The wetting achieved by using Suffusion eliminates the water beads and sheets water off the foliage, allowing foliage to dry early in the day, reducing chances of Botrytis. We use .25 ounces per 100 gallons of water after first color, before first color .125 ounce per 100 gallons works fine.

We use Capsil on all of our sprays at a rate of 3 to 4 ounces per 100 gal. with no spotting or problems of any sort.
