Poinsettia Production: Pinching Poinsettias
By admin | August 5, 2007
I have always pinched poinsettias approximately 5 weeks after sticking them (when direct- sticking). You really should pinch them when they are ready so you can’t always pinch at the 5 week mark, but that is the norm in my experience. Our first ones to be pinched are the 10 inch and they were ready last week and what do you know it’s 5 weeks after sticking. For this pot size, I’m leaving 5-6 leaves or nodes per plant. We are also removing some of the bigger leaves that are covering up the middle of the plant so we can get more light down into the leaf axils and help the breaks emerge. This week, we’ll continue the pinching and we’ll also stick our 4 inch crop.

I have also started a Poinsettia Forum for growers to discuss topics like this one and any other topics covering any other crops that we produce in this industry. Please come over to visit and interact.
