Ask a Grower Forum: Discussion Board is Up

By admin | August 5, 2007

I’ve started it, finally. The reason I started this website was to create a forum or discussion board where professional growers could get together to discuss and solve one another’s problems. There is a button titled “Ask a Grower Forum” at the top of the page (just below the title). This page talks in greater detail about the Forum and it lays out the rules and how to register on the site. The Forum is very simple and it’s ready to go. I’ve already started a category for discussing Poinsettia Production to get the ball rolling.

I think it would help read the Ask a Grower Forum Page before going to the Forum site.

Here is the link to the Forum:

The link is also contained in the Ask a Grower Forum Page.

We have been asked to grow “Diamond Point” poinsettia combos. Any ideas which is better growing them separately the poinsettias and diamond frost and comboing at the last minute, or growing them together all along?

    Paul,
I have never grown the Diamond Point but I would think that the Proven Winner website would have something about it. If I were to do it, I would tranplant the Diamond Frost into the 6-8 weeks before scheduled shipping.

We put the required size empty poinsettia pot in the center of the combo pot and fill around it. Transplant the diamond frost around the empty pot. When it is time to ship we simply remove the pot and drop the poinsettia in. We are small so it works. May not be practical for larger operation.

    Adam,
That is a great way to do it. I’ve done that before with other combos but I didn’t think of it in this instance.

How long is your production time for the Diamond Frost?

You can do it either way, the way Adam describes works very well. Or, you can plant them all at once. The all at once approach gives better intertwining of the Diamond Frost with the Poinsettia (or other plants).

Also, Adam’s method gives great flexibility if you want to grow Diamond Frost rings for summer production. This allows you to drop in any plant genera for instant combinations.
